SB878 - Unemployment Compensation, Commission on; increases membership, powers and duties.
SB883 - Firearms; purchase, etc., assault and battery of family member or intimate partner, penalties.
I support this bill because this bill would ensure that an intimate partner, or dating relationships, are included in the definition of domestic violence and firearms prohibitions are applicable. For example, this bill would include a relationship where a woman cohabitates with her boyfriend. I SUPPORT this bill as it expands critical protections to additional relationship categories.
Please support this bill for common sense public safety for Virginians living in fear from domestic violence
We MUST have stricter gun laws. At this point its common sense. Please protect our children and have stricter gun laws in order to keep our children safe at school and beyond.
I support this bill because it expands critical protections to additional relationship categories.
I support all of these bills as each would lessen the chances of gun violence and inevitably save lives.
I'm a volunteer with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and I support this bill. Access to a gun makes it five times more likely that a woman will die at the hands of a domestic abuser.
This would help to close the "boyfriend" loophole to include "intimate partner" and dating relationships in the definition of "domestic violence where firearms prohibitions are applicable. I SUPPORT this bill as it expands critical protections to additional relationship categories.
As a mother of two young children, there is nothing more important to me than building a safer community for our state's kids, one that is free from the fear and constant threat of wanton gun violence. I strongly support any measure -- large or small-- that brings awareness and common sense regulation of deadly weapons, that removes firearms from those who threaten themselves or others, and diminishes the capacity of firearms to kill innocent people.
These bills represent reasonable, impactful progress towards curbing gun violence in Virginia. I was a senior at Virginia Tech and lost a friend in the shooting in 2007, and I am now the mother of three young children who have to live under the protections that we collectively choose to provide for them. Responsible gun owners should support efforts to compel others towards responsible ownership and storage, as well as practical ways to ensure those who do not have responsible intentions have a much harder gaining access to a weapon. This is an area where state-level legislation can have a real impact regardless of national trends - mothers and fathers want to raise their children in communities where leaders are taking action on gun violence. Pass these bills!
SB885 - Office of the State Inspector General; behavioral health and developmental services; required reports.
SB886 - Trigger activator; definition does not include semi-automatic replacement trigger, etc., penalty.
Please support this bill for common sense public safety because no one needs anything associated with a semi automatic weapon.

I'm a volunteer with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and I support this bill. Prohibiting rapid-fire conversion devices would help prevent people from using them to convert semi-automatic weapons into machine guns and address the growing threat of automatic gunfire and the mass shootings carried out with firearms equipped with these deadly devices.
I SUPPORT SB886 as automatic and semi-automatic weapons can kill a large number of people in a very short period of time and have no place in civilian life. This is a common-sense reform.

On behalf of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, I am expressing our support for SB932 (Salim) and we urge you all to please support the bill during tomorrow’s Committee meeting. SB932 would encourage the creation of accessory dwelling units throughout the Commonwealth, providing flexibility to homeowners and expanding this tool to address our housing needs to the entire state. My family has been laid to rest beside each other in three different family cemeteries for over 200 years . All three cemeteries are within walking distance of each on land once owned by my family. Since the county purchase of the land surrounding our cemeteries we have been completely stripped of all burial rights next to our loved ones. We now have no where to rest. Recently we had to beg the County for over a week to allow my cousin to rest beside his Mother after his sudden passing. Now my 82 year old Mother is being denied the right of having her brother rest beside their brother. We have maintained this cemeteries for these 200 plus years knowing that we would always be with our loved ones when our time came. Now without hesitation that has painfully been taken from us.
