SB754 - Consumer Protection Act; prohibited practices, etc., reproductive or sexual health information.
Last Name: Alderman Locality: Crozet

Our health information should remain private -- between ourselves and our doctors. Companies shouldn't be able to buy, sell, or use that data, especially without our knowledge or consent. A YES vote on SB754 will provide important privacy protections for every Virginian.

Thank you members of the Committee. On behalf of REPRO Rising Virginia's 50,000 members, we ask you to SUPPORT SB754, the Consumer Protection Act for Reproductive & Sexual Health Data. Our personal data belongs to each of us and our reproductive and sexual health data could not be more personal. It is ours and ours alone to decide who can or cannot have access to it. Without these protections, Virginians' lives are an open book for anyone, including the government, to gain access and use a person's personal and private data for whatever purpose. This leaves Virginians' lives as an open bill that could book and could open them up to unwarranted public scrutiny and legal ramifications. Please protect Virginians' privacy by supporting SB754.

Information about our own health belongs to us, and should be kept between us and our doctors. We shouldn't have any of our medical information sold, much less without our knowledge or consent. Especially when that information can be used to target and harass vulnerable people just trying to live their lives and control their own bodies. I strongly support SB754's increased protections for Virginians, and I urge you to pass this bill.

The League of Women Voters supports SB754. This Bill explicitly provides consumer protection provisions to individuals seeking information, services or products related to reproductive health. It adds a layer of privacy protection for Virginians and closes a gap in the Virginia Consumer Protection Act.
