This is the PDF version of the presentation.
It contains a short introduction about Amit Seal Ami, PhD Candidate and Cyber-Security Researcher, W&M, who worked as a Commonwealth of Virginia Engineering and Science (COVES) Policy Fellow at the Joint Commission on Technology and Science (JCOTS). It further provides a brief overview of topics he worked on as a COVES Fellow with JCOTS, two specific recommendations with relation to the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), Privacy Concerns and Recommendations related to the Next-gen Televisions, and Path forward.
The two recommendations for the VCDPA are: a) Introduce Explicit Privacy Notice Distribution Guideline, and b) Enable Standards of Privacy Notices to facilitate Automated Analysis and Enforcement of Compliance.
The recommendation regarding NextGen televisions is to introduce policies that can help protect public interest and privacy. For example, RokuTV, an Internet based streaming service, collect personal data by default, but limits such data collection by default at the European Union to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Finally, the presentation concludes by discussing potential collaboration opportunities between a) policy makers at JCOTS and b) researchers at i) Secure Platforms Lab (SPL), and ii) Software Engineering and Maintenance Evolution Research Unit (SEMERU) of William & Mary.
