I am requesting your consideration of HB1198 and any other related bills that propose that the requirement of a front license plate on Virginia registered vehicles be eliminated. I know that you have received input from other concerned citizens regarding the potential cost savings to the State (ex. plate and registration tag production) as well as the safety and practical reasons that the front plate is no longer needed. For those of us who own higher value vehicles like the Corvette, the requirement for the front plate poses potential dollar appreciation issues as well as costly installation. As others have noted, there are safety issues associated with new vehicle technologies (ex. collision avoidance) impacted by front mounted plates. Actions by numerous other states also brings in to question the need for front plates as a value added requirement. I thank you for your consideration.
