VALA supports the protection of vulnerable adults from financial exploitation but has concerns about seizure of the assets of the vulnerable adult during the investigation. By seizing the assets of the individual, the debts, such as housing expenses, could be negatively impacted as being unpaid due to the seizure. The assets should be able to be released upon authorization of the owner and with documentation of the distribution of the asset to cover debts of the vulnerable adult.
