Please vote NO to this bill. Having suffered as a substitute teacher from abuse from students in the class room with no recourse for accountability I feel very strongly that teachers and administrators should have the right to not only protect themselves but even more importantly to protect all of the students from the few who are in much need of discipline and consequences.

The Virginia Coalition for Fine Arts Education acknowledges and supports the need for specialized student support positions for our public schools in the commonwealth as defined in HB 386 and HB 381. School counselors, social workers, school psychologists, school nurses, licensed assistant behavior analysts, and other assistant health and behavior analysts have never been more necessary than in our current climate of possible pandemic contagion, increased school violence, and poorer attendance. But the evidence is clear that the arts foster a more positive, school climate and better attendance. This funding must be for additional school support positions and not diminish curricular positions in the arts.

Please vote to pass HB 686 Meals for All. The children in Virginia need your help. Every child should be able to get a hot meal and not have to worry about being hungry. Parents are struggling and children are suffering. Please vote for free meals for children.

Vote in favor of: HB1039, HB732, HB686, HB603, HB498, HB497, HB482, HB386, HB253, HB224, HB215, HB134, and HB41. I would recommend including additional language in HB41 that addresses voter registrations in public schools. Being an active voter is part of our civic duty and participation in our democratic process should be taught and encouraged. Voter registration drives should be occurring in all public high schools in the Commonwealth.

Specialized support staff in schools can make the difference between a child getting life saving help before there's a crisis or ending up in the emergency room. Increasing the minimum number of required positions is one way to get more trained adult eyes on what students are going through.

I totally agree we need more counseling especially with students’ mental health taking a toll. But behavioral analysts? Cmon! Behaviorism HARMS mental health. It very much harmed mine. I nearly ended my life twice because of it. Please don’t do this to us! Or at least amend it so that there are guard rails so that we can hold Applied Behavioral Analysis folks accountable more easily. https://neuroclastic.com/invisible-abuse-aba-and-the-things-only-autistic-people-can-see/
