The National Guard is the community-military force that has been serving the Commonwealth of Virginia since 1607. As members of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force our service members have access to some Federal education benefits, but because of the part-time nature of their service, they are not afforded total access to the Montgomery GI Bill until after they serve on active-duty for a significant duration. The state-provided education benefits are an essential tool to bridge the gap between training a Soldier or Airmen and an eventual overseas mobilization or combat deployment. The General Funds provide opportunity directly to Virginians at Virginia schools. It is an indirect investment in the communities where they live and serve, and a direct benefit to the individual, family, and employers of your National Guard.
