Alexandria is a vibrant city based on history, culture, a waterfront and lots of tourism. If Virginia has money and space to build an arena then you have money and space to build new schools. Our school system is deplorable. It’s overcrowded. Think of your citizens before thinking about your quick money grab that eventually leads to an inevitable loss. We don’t want or need an arena. This is pure greed.

Good morning, Mr. Chair, and members of the committee. I am William Hamilton, a retired NYPD Sergeant with twenty-two years of service and the parent of a seventeen-year-old diagnosed with Autism. Throughout my time with the NYPD, I frequently interacted with people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I credit my ability to manage these situations effectively to the expertise and understanding I obtained from parenting my son, William. I believe the encounters would have been different if I didn’t have a son with Autism. Police officers frequently encounter situations where they must make split-second decisions. I strongly think that providing appropriate training will help prevent officers from mistakenly seeing behaviors associated with Autism as a potential danger to their safety. Furthermore, law enforcement personnel will receive enhanced training on how to effectively de-escalate tensions during interactions with those on the Autism spectrum. Kind Regards William Hamilton
