With the high cost of rent, food, gas for cars, prescriptions and health insurance most working citizens would benefit from a livable increase in wages. Please vote YES on this Bill. Thank you!

Is there a reason that minimum wage must apply to all people equally across all age groups and experience levels? Nobody seems to discuss this. My wife and I are majority owners in a small business that employs mostly high school- and college-aged individuals, as well as a couple adults in their 50's. The two adults have a great deal of work experience and produce so much more work than the younger age groups. We wish we could pay these two more than we do. The younger age group that we employ, 16-20 years old, have a mix of some who are able to produce quality work on down to those who have never swept with a broom before. Is there a reason that a 16 year old with no work experience or labor skills should make $15 per hour (or $25 per hour as one respondent suggested)? For that 16 year old, there is no motivation to improve their work ethic because they're already making more money than they should be. Almost all of the 16-20 age group don't need to make a "livable" wage because they are still living at home with someone who is paying all their bills. The adult age groups should be entitled to a livable wage, but in what area? Why do we need one minimum wage for the entire state? The minimum wage in northern Virginia should not be the same as the minimum wage in some of the more rural counties. That concept should not be that difficult to figure out. It should also not be too difficult to figure out that increasing the minimum wage simply increases inflation. We need livable wages but not for all employees, and "livable" is not the same in all locations. Figure it out and make the change.

If minimum wage workers are expected to make ends meet then their wages need to reflect the price of living increases that we’ve all experienced over the last few years.

In 2024 I still can’t believe that folks are talking about not raising minimum wages. Mind blowing!! Even at $13.50 is still low.

Minimum wage is not meant to be a living wage it is meant to be a starting wage to train new employees entering the workforce to learn the business. The employer is taking a risk employing those where this may be their first job. Businesses like fast food increasing the minimum wages will increase the cost of a burger, or may make them go to more automated services and decrease employees. Increasing the cost of goods or services provided could put the business out of business thereby decreasing the opportunity for employment for those trying to find that first job.

No one who works full time should have to live in poverty. Most Virginia workers who would benefit from raising the minimum wage work full-time and are important contributors to their family’s overall income. A consumer- based economy simply doesn’t work if people have no disposable income. Therefore, an increase in the minimum wage is needed in order to assist in disposable income promotion and to fuel our consumer-based economy. Raising Virginia’s minimum wage would have broad positive impacts for working people and our economy. In fact, raising the minimum wage is popular! A Wason Center poll in 2021 shows a majority (53%) of Virginians support raising the minimum wage to $15/hour including 66% of independents and 61% of moderates.

As you already know, Medicaid personal care is a significant component of Virginia's long-term care system, keeping citizens out of more costly nursing facilities. Years of low reimbursement, increases in wages and more regulations have made this model of care unsustainable. It is impossible to provide competitive salaries given the current reimbursement rate. A general increase in minimum wages will only compound this issue. Rate increases for Medicaid personal care must be included as a part of this legislation.

This is promising but it is NOT ENOUGH! Especially with this disastrous stadium project in my neighborhood spiking up rent prices. We need at LEAST $25 an hour. Or the streets will be flooded with the homeless.
